The remittance sector has played a vital role in strengthening the economy, according to Manoa Kamikamica, the Minister for Trade, Cooperative, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. During the 15th anniversary celebrations of FEXCO Pacific in Nadi, Mr. Kamikamica highlighted that remittances have surged to $1.3 billion in 2023, illustrating a significant increase from 2019, and indicating that economic growth is on a strong upward path.
He noted that the introduction of Starlink in Fiji, along with the forthcoming Google South Pacific Connect initiative, is set to revolutionize the country’s connectivity, making Fiji a prominent global digital hub.
As Fiji enhances its digital abilities, the emphasis on cybersecurity is increasingly vital. Mr. Kamikamica mentioned the progress towards developing a National Cybersecurity Strategy and establishing a National CERT to protect the country’s digital infrastructure.
Fiji is quickly becoming a center for Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO) and Knowledge Processing Outsourcing (KPO), as well as a focal point for ICT investments. With projects like Google’s Green data center in the works, the country is positioned to become a regional ICT powerhouse.
Mr. Kamikamica urged all stakeholders and investors to consider Fiji as a prime location for opportunities, growth, and collaboration.
