Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort’s chef-de-partie, Aziman Bibi, has been recognized as the Fiji Chef of the Year at the National Salon Culinaire 2024. Ms. Bibi expressed her gratitude for the award, dedicating it to her family and her team at the resort, acknowledging their unwavering support and commitment.

A native of Kulukulu, Nadroga, Ms. Bibi attended Kulukulu Public School and Cuvu College before receiving a multi-ethnic scholarship in 2006 to pursue Cookery studies at Fiji National University. “I saw the opportunity in the culinary business,” she remarked.

She began her career at Outrigger as a trainer, progressed to the role of commis chef in 2009, moved on to demi chef, and now holds the position of chef de partie. “I am overwhelmed with this award,” she stated. The mother of three, who has dedicated the past 16 years to the culinary field, emphasized the effort that went into her achievement.

In another highlight from the event, Frances Wakeham, 20, from Sheraton Denarau Villas, was awarded the Fiji Young Chef of the Year. Originally from Savusavu, she completed her education at Nasavusavu Public and Savusavu High School before enrolling in the Culinary program at Fiji National University. After taking part in an FNU chef competition, she was recruited by executive chef Rakesh Kumar at Sheraton Fiji. “I was surprised as I did not dream about it,” Ms. Wakeham noted, dedicating her award to her father, who is also a chef at Savasi Island Resort and is currently running his own business.

Additionally, Muni Vikash Chetty, a multi-award-winning pastry chef from Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort, was named Fiji Pastry Chef of the Year for 2024, marking his third time receiving this honor while representing various establishments over the past decade.

The three awardees will be competing at the Restaurant Challenge 2025 in Australia.
