Fiji’s Credibility Crisis: Cabinet Eyes Inquiry into Former FICAC Deputy’s Claims

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka announced that the cabinet will present a document regarding the investigation or commission of inquiry into allegations made by former Deputy Commissioner of FICAC, Francis Puleiwai.

During a press conference, Rabuka indicated that the document will outline the terms of reference and specific objectives for the commission for cabinet deliberation.

He emphasized the importance of this matter in maintaining the credibility of the government and its institutions. Rabuka acknowledged that while the past cannot be changed, the government is committed to ensuring that similar situations do not arise again.

“If anyone has violated orders, laws, or regulations, they will be addressed accordingly,” Rabuka stated.

When asked about Puleiwai’s claims of being threatened by government agents, the Prime Minister dismissed such notions, asserting that they do not reflect the government he represents.

Rabuka advised Puleiwai to report any concerns to the police if she feels unsafe in Fiji, reiterating that she is welcome to return to the country.

He also noted that a report related to the claims was retracted by ABC due to questions surrounding its credibility.

The Prime Minister reassured all Fijians of their safety.
