The Minister for Cooperatives, Manoa Kamikamica, has highlighted positive developments regarding cooperatives led by women and youth in Fiji. He noted that the Ministry has introduced strategic initiatives designed to boost female involvement in these organizations, including improved access to grants and financial opportunities.
Recent data shows that the representation of women in cooperatives has increased from 12 percent to 20 percent this year. Kamikamica attributes this growth to a focused outreach campaign by the Ministry, as well as specialized training programs and financial support that encourage greater female participation.
In the past three years, 398 women and youth have taken on board positions in various cooperatives. The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing the involvement of women and youth through more inclusive policies that address their specific needs.
