Unity Fiji party leader Savenaca Narube has emphasized that any review of the 2013 Constitution should not be driven by “political gamesmanship.” He stressed the importance of approaching this significant national issue for the right reasons, aiming to secure the best constitution for Fiji’s multiracial society.
Narube indicated that Unity Fiji is actively pursuing legal action against the 2013 Constitution in hopes of fostering national consensus. He outlined the party’s commitment to broad consultation, which includes engaging with military representatives, and developing a credible transition plan that seeks support from all communities.
He referred to a recent lecture by Professor Anthony Regan as a comprehensive assessment of the possibilities for either amending or discarding the imposed 2013 Constitution. Narube reiterated that Unity Fiji had pledged to challenge the 2013 Constitution during the 2022 election campaign and is working to fulfill this promise, regardless of their current status in Parliament.
