The Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services, and Transport, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, participated in the 13th Assembly and Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) Week in Seoul this week. During the event, he held a bilateral meeting with GGGI Director General Frank Rijsberman, expressing appreciation for the organization’s technical support to Fiji.
Minister Tuisawau engaged in two high-level ministerial panels, where he addressed the challenges that Pacific Small Island Developing States encounter due to climate change, inequality, and the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He underscored the significance of climate finance and the urgent necessity for innovative funding mechanisms to assist Fiji’s infrastructure and community-based projects. In his remarks, he pointed out Fiji’s exposure to climate change and urged for climate finance efforts that are inclusive and ensure no one is left behind.
The Minister also highlighted the role of renewable energy in rural electrification and acknowledged the contributions of development partners in this regard. He reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to collaborating with GGGI, advocating for its ongoing engagement in the South Pacific region.
Additionally, Minister Tuisawau emphasized the importance of COP29 in securing a Loss and Damage Fund to support vulnerable nations such as Fiji.
