Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has urged Fijians to stand against racism and promote unity among their varied communities. In aligning his views with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the ILO Convention 169, Rabuka emphasized the importance of inclusivity and respect for indigenous rights.
“We do not have time for those kinds of people,” he declared, stressing that every Fijian shares a responsibility to care for one another. He pointed out that recognizing and respecting each other’s rights is essential for harmony in a multi-ethnic nation like Fiji. This message echoes sentiments expressed by Fiji’s Attorney-General Graham Leung and other officials, who have stressed the ongoing need for unity and rejection of ethnic divisions.
