Fiji’s Cabinet Tackles Budget Shortfalls: What’s Next?

The Fijian Cabinet has sanctioned a second reallocation of funds within the 2023-2024 Budget to address overspending by the Ministry of Education and the Fiji Police Force.

An amount of FJ$7.94 million will be redirected from existing budget allocations to rectify these financial deficits.

This action follows a previous fund reallocation in July, in which FJ$105.19 million was diverted to satisfy additional spending requirements across several government agencies and projects.

The reallocation of funds is executed in accordance with the Financial Management Act, ensuring that the government remains within its fiscal parameters while managing the unexpected costs of these critical departments.

This financial adjustment underscores the government’s commitment to efficiently manage its budget while ensuring the continuity of essential services.
