Fiji’s Cabinet Poised to Address Credibility Concerns with New Inquiry

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka announced that the cabinet will present a document regarding the ‘Investigation’ or ‘Commission of Inquiry’ into allegations made by former Deputy Commissioner of FICAC, Francis Puleiwai.

In a media briefing, Rabuka explained that this document outlines the ‘Terms of Reference’ and a series of objectives for the Commission members for cabinet review. He emphasized the importance of addressing the credibility of the Government and its institutions.

While acknowledging that the past cannot be changed, Rabuka asserted that the Government aims to prevent similar actions from occurring in the future. He stated, “If anyone has violated orders, laws, or regulations, they will be held accountable.”

When asked about Puleiwai’s claims of being targeted by government agents, the Prime Minister dismissed the notion, stating it could not have originated from his administration. Rabuka suggested that Puleiwai should contact the Police if she feels endangered in Fiji and reaffirmed that she is welcome to return to the country.

He also noted that the report mentioning Puleiwai’s claims was retracted by ABC due to questions regarding its credibility. The Prime Minister concluded by assuring all Fijians of their safety.
