The Ministry of Education is set to reinstate interviews for Year 13 students who are interested in enrolling in teacher training institutions across Fiji’s four divisions. This initiative will be conducted in partnership with Teacher Training Institutions (TTIs), the Fiji Teacher’s Registration Authority (FTRA), the Higher Education Commission Fiji (HECF), and the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS).
Education Minister Aseri Radrodro emphasized the importance of this opportunity for Year 13 graduates aspiring to enter the teaching profession and influence the educational future of Fiji. He pointed out the increasing need for qualified educators, highlighting the necessity for teacher training programs to be thorough and designed to attract suitable candidates.
This initiative aligns with the 2024-2033 Denarau Declaration, which aims to foster collaboration between TTIs and key stakeholders, ensuring that graduates are equipped with the essential knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to thrive in the classroom. Radrodro expressed a commitment to cultivating a strong educational atmosphere, stating that teachers play a crucial role in shaping a bright and impactful future for education in Fiji.
The reintroduction of the interview process aims to recruit passionate individuals dedicated to inspiring the next generation of learners. Radrodro also outlined the current priority teaching areas for the Ministry of Education, including Primary Education, Special and Inclusive Education, and various subjects such as Mathematics, Science, and the Arts.
The deadline for online applications to TSLS is January 31, 2025. The scholarships offered cover multiple programs at both the secondary and primary education levels, including specializations in counselling, early childhood education, and various academic subjects.
The Ministry, in collaboration with TTIs, will conduct two rounds of interviews. Students will be informed about the interview dates and venues via email and phone calls.
