Fiji’s Bold Vision: A Game-Changer for Sustainable Development!

The National Development Plan (NDP) for 2025-2029, alongside Vision 2050, has been introduced as a comprehensive policy framework aimed at directing government resource allocation over the next five years and establishing a strong foundation for Fiji’s development over the next quarter-century.

The unveiling took place at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva. Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica emphasized that the NDP embodies a new political mandate, one that focuses on improving the well-being of citizens, promoting inclusiveness, and ensuring sustainable development.

The NDP and Vision 2050 are built on three fundamental pillars: economic resilience, empowerment of the populace, and good governance. Kamikamica expressed his belief that the NDP will serve as a catalyst for transformative changes, leading to enhanced economic growth and increased opportunities.

He stressed the critical role of collective action in successfully implementing the plan, stating, “It is through our united efforts that we will drive sustainable development forward and realize the prosperous Fiji we aspire to achieve. Together, let us commit to building a more sustainable and resilient future for generations to come.”

The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted that the new plan prioritizes the needs and dreams of the people, ensuring that development is equitable and inclusive. He remarked, “Any development plan that does not place its people at the forefront is both futile and impractical.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad described the NDP as a forward-looking vision that is comprehensive, strategic, and practical. He noted that over 21,000 individuals contributed to the consultation process, which included civil society organizations, industry representatives, armed forces, academia, students, and faith-based groups, to better understand the community’s concerns and gather valuable insights.

“This National Development Plan emerges at a critical moment, intended to respond to our pressing global, regional, and national challenges that shape our prospects as a nation and define the limits of our shared future,” Prasad stated. He added that the plan presents Fiji with a unique opportunity to define its path toward becoming a resilient, sustainable, and highly inclusive nation.
