The Pacific Recycling Foundation (PRF) and Tourism Fiji have launched a three-year partnership focused on promoting sustainable tourism and environmental responsibility. Amitesh Deo, the founder of PRF, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in developing a circular economy and enhancing environmental stewardship.
As part of the partnership, the I-Recycle program will be implemented to improve recycling initiatives in key tourist areas and tackle litter challenges, contributing to a cleaner environment. Leigh Howard, Chief Operating Officer of Tourism Fiji, expressed pride in incorporating sustainability into the tourist experience, ensuring Fiji remains a premier destination committed to environmental conservation.
Additionally, a Visitor Carbon Footprint Program will encourage tourists to engage in sustainable practices by allowing them to offset their carbon footprint during their visit. This initiative marks PRF’s first long-term project following its strategic planning in March 2024, highlighting the critical role of recycling and sustainability in supporting Fiji’s tourism industry and local communities.
