Fiji is in the process of creating a national labor migration policy with support from the International Labour Organization (ILO). A tender document published by the ILO reveals that the government is currently revising key national legislation and policies related to employment and migration.
This initiative involves examining the Employment Relations Act, formulating a national migration policy, and developing a national employment policy (NEP). The tender notice highlights that labor mobility is a crucial area that requires targeted technical attention amid these high-level policy reforms.
To this end, the proposal aims to use these ongoing processes to establish a national labor migration policy that will complement both the NEP and the national migration policy. The goal of the new national migration policy is to create a comprehensive framework for the governance and management of migration in Fiji.
According to the tender announcement, the proposed policy will define essential priorities and strategies for overseeing labor mobility, whether incoming or outgoing. The selected consultant tasked with developing this national labor migration policy will be expected to conduct bilateral consultations.
