Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced that Fiji’s Foreign Policy Water Paper represents a comprehensive national approach, merging all aspects of both domestic and international policy.
During a session in Parliament, Rabuka emphasized that the policy acknowledges that Fiji’s security and prosperity hinge on a clear understanding of the nation’s interests and values, along with effective strategies to promote them.
He articulated that the policy outlines Fiji’s self-perception and its intended global image, highlighting initiatives like the promotion of the Ocean of Peace, which stands as Fiji’s most significant contribution to peace and security in its region and the broader Indo-Pacific area.
Rabuka noted that the White Paper articulates Fiji’s identity and core values, defining the nation’s beliefs. Additionally, he mentioned that the document details the government’s plan for executing Fiji’s foreign policy, alongside the necessary systems and resources to support the entire government framework.
The Prime Minister also pointed out that the White Paper is linked to Chapter 3 of Fiji’s National Development Plan and serves as a proposed reaction to the current National Security and Defence Review.
He affirmed that these elements collectively form the bedrock of the Government’s strategy to promote Fiji’s strategic and economic goals while enhancing social unity.
