Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has stated that Fiji’s Foreign Policy Water Paper embodies a comprehensive approach that combines various policy aspects, both domestic and international.
During his address in Parliament, Rabuka emphasized that this policy acknowledges that Fiji’s security and prosperity are fundamentally linked to a clear understanding of the nation’s interests and values, as well as the best methods to promote them.
He detailed that the policy outlines how Fiji perceives itself and its desired image on the global stage. Among the initiatives discussed is the promotion of the Ocean of Peace, which Rabuka described as Fiji’s most significant contribution to peace and security in its region and the wider Indo-Pacific area.
The Prime Minister remarked that the White Paper articulates Fiji’s identity and values, encapsulating who the nation is and what it stands for.
Rabuka noted that it also delineates the Government’s strategy for executing Fiji’s foreign policy, along with the necessary systems and resources to activate the entire government framework.
Furthermore, he pointed out that the White Paper is reflected in Chapter 3 of Fiji’s National Development Plan and corresponds with the ongoing National Security and Defence Review.
Together, he asserted, these components constitute the foundation of the Government’s strategy to promote Fiji’s strategic and economic objectives while enhancing social unity.
