Tourism Fiji has introduced the “Bin it or Bag it” campaign aimed at fostering a litter-free environment as part of its sustainable tourism initiatives.

This campaign emerged from the 2023 Fiji Tourism Convention with the aim of reducing litter. It has gained support from nearly 15 partners, including several major hotels and resorts, which have collectively contributed over FJ$100,000 in funding and resources.

The initiative encourages both locals and visitors to dispose of waste responsibly, either by using bins or storing waste in bags for later disposal. It aims to cultivate a community movement focused on environmental conservation.

In addition, Tourism Fiji is partnering with local artists to enhance the campaign with a catchy jingle and visuals, featuring a character named ‘Kasikasi’ to advocate for responsible waste management. Reusable bags inscribed with the campaign slogan will be distributed at various locations throughout Fiji.

Brent Hill, the Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Fiji, emphasized the shared responsibility in safeguarding the environment. He expressed enthusiasm about launching the “Bin it or Bag it” campaign in collaboration with committed partners, stating that it reflects their dedication to sustainable tourism practices and emphasizes the collective duty to protect Fiji’s environment. Hill encouraged all residents and visitors to adopt the “Bin it or Bag it” philosophy.

The campaign will be promoted through diverse media channels and aligns with national sustainability objectives, in cooperation with government ministries. Srishti Narayan, Chief Marketing Officer, expressed her hope that the initiative would successfully unite the community, industry, and government efforts in promoting environmental conservation.
