Fiji’s Bold Move: How Sports Events Propel Economic Growth

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism Viliame Gavoka has reiterated the Coalition Government’s commitment to using high-impact events to stimulate the economy and support Fiji’s tourism development goals.

While addressing the Spartan 2024 Business Launch in Sabeto, Gavoka emphasized that the Spartan event serves not only as a sporting challenge but also as a key element in the government’s strategy to enhance Fiji’s reputation in the Wellness Tourism sector.

He pointed out the success of the previous year’s Spartan event, which generated a remarkable FJ$6 million, significantly benefiting local businesses. Over 30 suppliers contributed services like transport, accommodation, and catering, bolstering the local economy.

Gavoka stated that this financial boost aligns with the Coalition Government’s aim to promote local economic participation while enhancing Fiji’s appeal on the global stage. The event also provided substantial advantages for Land Owning Units and local communities, highlighting the inclusive approach to economic growth fostered by the Coalition Government.
