Tourism Fiji’s “Bin it or Bag it” campaign, which promotes a litter-free environment, has raised over $100,000 since it began last year.

In a statement, Tourism Fiji announced that around 15 partners nationwide have contributed financial support, media coverage, and creative talent to help realize the campaign.

During the 2023 Fiji Tourism Convention, industry stakeholders identified litter reduction as a vital sustainability objective, leading to a collaboration of several private sector organizations, including the Intercontinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, Grand Pacific Hotel, The Holiday Inn, Rosie Holidays, and Ahura Resorts.

The “Bin it or Bag it” initiative encourages both Fijians and visitors to properly manage waste by utilizing trash bins or, if none are available, to store waste in bags for later disposal.

A notable aspect of the campaign is the character ‘Kasikasi,’ introduced in its visuals, which aims to promote responsible waste management. The effort also includes specially designed reusable bags featuring the campaign slogan, available at various locations across Fiji.

Brent Hill, the chief executive of Tourism Fiji, expressed excitement about launching this initiative with committed partners. He emphasized the importance of sustainable tourism practices and the collective responsibility to protect Fiji’s environment.

Hill encouraged everyone to adopt the “Bin it” or “Bag it” message, which will be widely promoted through billboards, newspapers, radio, and digital channels.

Srishti Narayan, the chief marketing officer of Tourism Fiji, highlighted the collaborative nature of this crucial initiative, stating that the partnership between the community, industry, and government is a strong catalyst for positive change. She thanked all partners involved and invited everyone to participate in the movement towards a cleaner, greener Fiji.

Tourism Fiji is collaborating with the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to ensure alignment with broader national sustainability objectives, a key focus area for the government.
