Fiji’s Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, has announced a proactive initiative to combat the growing issues of drug misuse among students through the implementation of spot checks in schools. This measure comes amid increasing concerns regarding drug peddling within educational settings.
In his recent address, Mr. Radrodro pointed out the critical nature of addressing drug problems in schools, noting that any spot checks would be conducted with the required consent from parents to prioritize student safety and well-being. “We are looking at implementing spot checks to ensure the safety and well-being of our students,” he stated.
To further support students, Radrodro shared plans to integrate school chaplains into the educational framework. These chaplains will play a vital role in providing moral guidance and essential counseling services across the country, addressing a current shortfall in school counselors.
