Fiji’s Bold Move: $200M Investment to Transform Vanua Levu’s Tourism Potential

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism, Viliame Gavoka, announced the government’s dedication to advancing the development of Vanua Levu, acknowledging its significant potential and distinctive allure. During the launch of the Damodar City Labasa Hotel Brand, Gavoka revealed that the government, with backing from the World Bank, is investing $200 million in the region as part of the Vanua Levu Tourism Development Programme.

Of this investment, $61.5 million will focus on addressing obstacles to growth, which include improving transport, infrastructure, and essential services, alongside enhancing the private sector and essential services. Gavoka emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting developments that align with broader strategic goals, ensuring that growth is sustainable, inclusive, and advantageous for everyone. He also pointed out that Fiji’s economy is heavily reliant on tourism within the services sector, highlighting the need to significantly increase the current tourism contribution to the economy.
