The 2024 Commonwealth Climate Breakfast focused on achieving consensus for climate finance targets leading up to COP 29. Key topics discussed included access to climate finance, Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), and strategies for loss and mitigation during the CHOGM Climate Breakfast forum.

Alitia Bainivalu, the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry, presented two primary targets under Fiji’s NDC for her ministry. She emphasized that “target 10 aims to conserve natural environments and biodiversity, allowing for the sustainable long-term provision of ecosystem services, including carbon sequestration potential.” Furthermore, she stated that “target 11 is to plant 30 million trees over 15 years, a significant priority for the Ministry that began in 2012.”

The CHOGM event is set to conclude on Saturday, October 26.
