The National Development Plan (NDP) for 2025-2029 and Vision 2050 has been introduced as a critical policy framework aimed at directing government resource allocation over the next five years and establishing a foundation for Fiji’s development over the next quarter-century.
The NDP was officially presented at an event held at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva.
Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica emphasized that the NDP represents a new political commitment to enhance the welfare of citizens, promote inclusivity, and foster sustainable development.
The National Development Plan and Vision 2050 are built on three core pillars: economic resilience, people empowerment, and good governance.
Kamikamica stated that the NDP would serve as a catalyst for significant change and help achieve improved economic growth and opportunities.
He highlighted the crucial role of collective action in effectively implementing the plan, stressing that sustainable development can only be achieved through united efforts. He urged everyone to commit to building a sustainable and resilient future for future generations.
He further noted that the new Plan is centered on the needs and aspirations of the populace, ensuring that development remains fair and inclusive.
“Any development plan that does not prioritize its people is both pointless and impractical,” he remarked.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, described the NDP as a forward-thinking strategy that is both comprehensive and practical.
He shared that over 21,000 individuals, including representatives from civil society, industry, the armed forces, academia, students, and faith-based organizations, were consulted to gather insights and perspectives on their concerns and ideas.
Prasad pointed out that the National Development Plan comes at a crucial time, aiming to address the urgent global, regional, and national issues that influence Fiji’s future.
He concluded by stating that the Plan is a chance for Fiji to carve its path towards becoming a resilient, sustainable, and highly inclusive nation.
