Fiji’s Bold Blueprint: A Vision for Economic Resilience and Empowerment

Deputy Prime Minister and Trade Minister Manoa Kamikamica has stated that both current and future generations in Fiji will benefit from improved economic growth and prosperity through the National Development Plan (NDP) for 2025-2029, which is designed to act as a catalyst for change. He emphasized that this initiative allows all citizens, irrespective of their backgrounds, to contribute to and gain from the nation’s advancement.

At the official launch of the NDP in Suva, Kamikamica articulated that the government’s vision for the plan, titled “Empowering the People of Fiji through Unity,” resonates deeply with Fiji’s national aspirations. He noted that it reflects a commitment to creating a shared purpose, ensuring that every citizen has the chance to participate in and benefit from national progress.

Kamikamica highlighted that defining the key pillars necessary for driving Fiji’s development has been a thoughtful and intentional endeavor. The NDP is structured around three essential pillars:

1. Economic Resilience – A focus on diversifying the economy through innovation, research, and technology to withstand future economic shocks.
2. People Empowerment – Addressing developmental disparities to guarantee that all Fijians have access to fundamental services, thereby encouraging active participation in nation-building.
3. Good Governance – Enhancing accountability, transparency, and adherence to the rule of law to uphold democratic integrity.

The plan aligns with international and regional commitments such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent. It reaffirms Fiji’s dedication to regional leadership and aims to establish the country as a commercial and trade hub in the Pacific.

Furthermore, Kamikamica stressed that while the National Development Plan will outline the framework for Fiji’s upcoming phase of development, its successful enactment will depend on the collective efforts of all Fijians.
