The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade, Manoa Kamikamica, has stated that Fiji’s current and future generations will benefit from improved economic growth and enhanced prosperity through the National Development Plan (NDP) for 2025-2029, which he described as a catalyst for change. This initiative aims to ensure that all citizens, regardless of their backgrounds, can contribute to and enjoy the nation’s progress.
Speaking at the NDP launch in Suva, Kamikamica highlighted the government’s vision for the plan, “Empowering the People of Fiji through Unity,” which reflects the core aspirations of the nation. He emphasized the importance of fostering a shared purpose, enabling every citizen to play a role in the country’s development.
Kamikamica noted that the development of foundational pillars to drive Fiji into its next growth phase was a careful and strategic process. The NDP is structured around three main pillars:
1. Economic Resilience – Diversifying the economy through innovation, research, and technology to withstand future economic shocks.
2. People Empowerment – Addressing development gaps to ensure that all Fijians can access basic services and participate actively in nation-building.
3. Good Governance – Promoting accountability, transparency, and adherence to the rule of law to uphold democracy.
The plan is designed to align with global and regional commitments, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent. It emphasizes Fiji’s role in regional leadership and positions the nation as a commercial and trade hub in the Pacific.
Kamikamica concluded that while the National Development Plan will outline the path for Fiji’s future development, its successful execution will hinge on the collective efforts of all Fijians.
