Filmmaker and content creator Reneel Singh has recently launched his first single, titled “Jungli,” after a two-year journey of exploration and creativity. Based in Hamilton, New Zealand, Singh, whose parents hail from Fiji, shared that the inspiration for “Jungli” stemmed from his passion for Fiji Indian culture rather than any formal music background.
“My roots are deeply connected to Fiji. My father is from Nadi, and my mother is from Lautoka. They relocated to New Zealand before I was born, and we settled in Rotorua, which remains home for them today,” he explained.
Professionally, Singh operates a videography company where he produces content for various events, including weddings and corporate projects. Recently, he has shifted his focus toward creating content that resonates specifically with the Fiji Indian community.
Among his notable creations is a web series called “The Sunny Side of Ngongotaha,” which depicts the lives of Fiji Indians in New Zealand. He also has several short films in development.
Discussing his new single, Singh expressed a desire to create a pop anthem for the Fiji Indian community, as he felt a lack of representation in this genre. “It wasn’t about being a singer, but rather being a storyteller and a creator for my community,” he stated.
“This is my first venture into music, and witnessing the positive feedback has motivated me to produce even more,” he added.
Singh wanted to craft a party anthem that reflects the vibrant celebrations within the Fiji Indian culture. He explained that the title “Jungli,” inspired by a personal nickname, embodies the lively spirit of the community, describing it as playful and bold.
The entire process of creating “Jungli” took approximately two years, thanks to the unwavering support from his local Fiji Indian community, including friends, family, and fellow creators. The song and its music video have received an enthusiastic response, particularly the visually striking elements featuring dancing atop buildings and effects on the Sky Tower.
Singh cites the late Michael Jackson as a major influence in his artistic journey, highlighting Jackson’s unique ability to merge music with visual storytelling. He also credits his parents for instilling the values of hard work and authenticity in him.
With “Jungli” gaining recognition, Singh aims to continue producing entertaining content, planning to work on additional songs and short films that delve into various facets of the Fiji Indian experience. He even contemplates creating a feature film in the future.
“This is the moment to challenge myself and see how much I can achieve,” he said, emphasizing his commitment to representing and celebrating the Fiji Indian community through his work. Singh expressed gratitude to the local Fiji Indian community, acknowledging that the project wouldn’t have materialized without their support. “This song isn’t just mine—it belongs to everyone who helped bring it to life.”
