Fiji’s Biggest Quiz Challenge: Are Students Ready to Think Critically?

Selina Kuruleca, the Permanent Secretary for Education, stated that the IQ Active competition promotes academic engagement, enhancing critical thinking and problem-solving skills among students.

During the launch of the nation’s largest national secondary school general knowledge quiz competition this morning, Kuruleca emphasized the competition’s role in fostering academic involvement.

Fifty secondary schools, including five maritime schools, will take part in the 2024 competitions, featuring over 200 students from various divisions.

Kuruleca praised Fiji TV for reviving the competition and urged participants to work collaboratively and communicate effectively.

“This competition should encourage and nurture critical thinking. Instead of only thinking about a problem in one way, you need to be challenged to think critically and creatively, enhancing your problem-solving skills and intellectual capabilities. Read up and study as you normally would, and then think creatively and critically on the best possible solutions,” she advised.

Felix Chaudhary, Acting CEO of Fiji Television, expressed the company’s dedication to supporting Fiji’s education sector. He stated, “Fiji TV is committed to developing literacy, numeracy, and this is something that we are very keen to continue into the future.”

The 2024 IQ Active competition is set to premiere on October 7th on Fiji One.
