Fiji’s Anti-Corruption Body Clears Former Attorney-General of Allegations

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption has announced that it will not pursue charges against former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum related to alleged violations of Section 24 (5) of the Political Parties (Registration, Conduction, Funding, and Disclosures) Act 2013. Investigations conducted revealed insufficient evidence to substantiate claims of misconduct by Sayed-Khaiyum.

On July 24, 2024, FICAC formally notified the Fijian Elections Office of its decision to close the case concerning these allegations. Furthermore, FICAC has provided recommendations to the Elections Office on areas that require revision and strengthening to prevent similar issues in the future, aimed at improving clarity and support throughout the investigation process.
