The Pacific Specialist Healthcare Hospital (PSH) is poised to realize the Fiji Government’s vision of transforming the nation into a prime health tourism destination, as stated by founder and managing director Parvish Kumar. Equipped with cutting-edge medical technology and a team of specialists, PSH aims to cater to both local and international medical tourists.

Mr. Kumar emphasized that the hospital aligns with government objectives to boost the health tourism sector. Recently, the facility celebrated a significant milestone with the successful completion of its first open-heart surgery, thanks to the establishment of a new cardiology department. The hospital, which has a capacity of 100 beds, is proud of its modern equipment and highly qualified staff.

The first patient to undergo a complex coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) procedure was Kusum Lata, 61, from Natabua, Lautoka. The surgery, which involved a triple graft, was executed smoothly, and Lata was discharged just days later, demonstrating promising recovery.

Tourism Minister Viliame Gavoka acknowledged the necessity of enhancing Fiji’s healthcare infrastructure to benefit both locals and medical travelers. He noted that medical tourism attracts individuals seeking affordable and quality medical care, pointing to successful examples like India. In 2022, around two percent of visitors participated in health-related activities in Fiji.

Moreover, the government is incentivizing private investments in healthcare with financial packages that include allowances and duty-free entry for specific medical equipment. This initiative aims to encourage the expansion of private healthcare facilities.

Brent Hill, the CEO of Tourism Fiji, highlighted the significance of showcasing Fiji’s healthcare capabilities to potential patients worldwide. He noted that the beautiful surroundings in Fiji would provide an ideal environment for pre and post-operative recovery.

Dr. Ram Raju, former president of the Fiji College of General Practitioners, commented on this achievement, stating it signifies a promising chapter for both Nadi and Fiji’s medical landscape. He expressed optimism for growth in the health tourism sector.

In summary, PSH is not just a hospital; it represents a beacon of hope for health tourism in Fiji, combining quality medical care with the allure of a tropical paradise. As the hospital continues to develop and the government supports growth in the sector, this initiative could significantly enhance Fiji’s position as a destination for medical care.

This positive development suggests a bright future for health tourism in Fiji, potentially leading to increased economic opportunities and improved healthcare options for the local population and visitors alike.
