Fiji’s Airports Set for Major Overhaul: What You Need to Know!

The Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation is progressing with the construction of new terminals at Labasa and Savusavu airports as part of Fiji Airports’ capital projects. Minister Viliame Gavoka announced that the initiative is aimed at replacing the outdated Adi Laisa Terminal, which has been operational for 51 years.

This development aligns with the broader Navualiku Project, designed to elevate tourism infrastructure in Fiji. Minister Gavoka emphasized the importance of upgrading both airports to attract more visitors and enhance the overall tourist experience in Savusavu. The upgrades will include improvements such as pavement construction, enhanced connectivity, and a new terminal in Savusavu, ensuring it is equipped to handle an influx of tourists effectively.

This initiative represents a commitment from the coalition government to position Savusavu as a premier tourist destination in Fiji. The Ministry is optimistic that the ongoing investments will support the work of the Savusavu Town Council and create significant benefits for the community and residents of Fiji.

The current state of infrastructure improvement in Labasa reflects a trend towards modernization seen in the recent upgrades at the airport. Earlier projects funded by the World Bank and managed by Fiji Airports are set to enhance passenger capacity and travel experience. Improvements at Labasa Airport have also seen a $6 million investment aimed at the existing terminal, which is expected to bolster local economic activity by attracting more tourism.

These initiatives offer a promising outlook for the local economy, enhancing travel experiences, stimulating economic growth, and fostering sustainability in Fiji’s tourism sector. The commitment to modernizing aviation infrastructure positions Fiji for a vibrant tourism future, contributing to the resilience and prosperity of its local communities.
