The Fijian government’s mid to long-term strategy aims to ensure that affordable housing is accessible to all citizens. During a meeting with stakeholders and residents in Nadawa, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, emphasized the Coalition Government’s dedication to addressing critical issues in informal settlements.

Prasad noted that part of the National Development Plan, which will soon be unveiled, will include strategies and frameworks to tackle the broader challenges posed by informal settlements. He cautioned that while solutions are sought, they may not be immediate, urging a thorough understanding of the circumstances that have developed over the past 25 years.

The Minister highlighted plans for residents to obtain proper land titles and improve infrastructure related to drainage, sewage, electricity, and water supply. The meeting included representatives from various ministries, including Finance and Housing, along with local stakeholders.

Professor Prasad suggested ongoing discussions with all involved parties to find amicable resolutions that would benefit the community.
