Rayna Chand’s hard work and determination have led to an impressive achievement as she topped the Fiji Eighth Year Examination for the Northern Division. The 13-year-old head girl of Wainikoro Public School in Macuata achieved an outstanding score of 485 out of 500 marks, marking a significant first for her school.
Rayna’s performance included exemplary marks across subjects, with 97 in English, 94 in Mathematics, a perfect 100 in Basic Science, 97 in Healthy Living, 97 in Social Science, and 88 in Hindi. Her success is a tremendous source of pride for her and her community.
In expressing her gratitude, Rayna thanked her parents and teachers, acknowledging their pivotal role in her academic journey. “I feel proud to be the first student at my school to score the highest marks in Vanua Levu,” she shared. Her motivation stems from her desire to make her parents proud. Her father, an electrician in Suva, and her mother, who works at the school, have supported her educational pursuits.
Rayna revealed that she adopted a disciplined study routine, often studying late at night and waking up at 4 AM for revision. “I have always come first in my school since Year One,” she stated, highlighting that while she encountered challenges, she persevered and maintained a focus on her goals.
Her mother, Shareeni Lal, expressed immense pride and confirmed plans to enroll Rayna at Labasa College for her further education. The school’s head teacher, Rajesh Kumar, also expressed gratitude towards the Ministry of Education Labasa office for their support and guidance that contributed to this remarkable achievement. “This is the first time we received the highest mark in the North, and we, including the school management, are proud,” he noted, highlighting Rayna’s status as the school dux this year.
This achievement not only reflects Rayna’s dedication and the support of her community but also serves as an inspiration to other students striving for excellence in their academic endeavors.
