“Fijians Urged to Embrace New Life at Ratu Sukuna Park”

Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica has urged all Fijians to take responsibility for the upkeep of the newly redeveloped Ratu Sukuna Park, which was constructed at a cost of $7 million.

During the park’s opening ceremony held on Monday evening, Kamikamica highlighted the significance of preserving the park as a source of comfort and pride for future generations. He described the renovated park as a substantial transformation from its original state, illustrating the nation’s advancement and commitment to urban renewal.

“This upgraded park now boasts modern features including a new podium structure, decorative night lights, contemporary park furniture, a digital screen with surround sound, and a landscaped area that harmonizes hardscape with green space,” Kamikamica stated.

He added that the new water feature enhances Ratu Sukuna’s monument, creating a tranquil atmosphere within the park. “This park serves as more than just a green space; it stands as an island amid our busy city, offering peace, tranquility, creativity, and a fresh starting point,” he said.

Kamikamica emphasized that parks such as Ratu Sukuna go beyond mere recreational areas—they are vital for the health and well-being of our communities. “They provide venues for families to gather, for children to play, and for individuals to connect with nature. These spaces enhance the livability of our cities, transforming them from mere places to reside and work into environments where we can flourish,” he commented.

He concluded by calling for collective effort to continue transforming Suva into a city that embraces nature, reinforcing its reputation as one of the leading cities for environmental quality according to the Global Cities Index.
