Fijiana XV Shines Ahead of Samoa Showdown in Dubai

The Vodafone Fijiana XV team showcased an impressive performance against Hong Kong China, winning 38-3 in their opening match of the WXV3 tournament. This victory sets a positive tone as they prepare to face Samoa on October 12 in Dubai.

Coach Mosese Rauluni noted that while the first half was marked by some laziness, resulting in lost possession and penalties, the team improved in the second half despite a few mistakes. He expressed relief at the win following previous test match losses to Scotland and the Netherlands.

“This win boosted the players’ confidence as we head into the challenging game against Samoa in two weeks,” Rauluni said. He emphasized the need for strong set-pieces and improved physicality in ball carries and defense.

Captain Karalaini Naisewa, who scored twice, reflected on the match positively, mentioning the familiar weather conditions in Dubai. She highlighted the necessity to address errors before facing Samoa, stating, “Samoa is not an easy game; we’ll try to come out strong.” Naisewa also called for improved fitness from the players.

The match saw Anasimeci Korovata score Fiji’s first try, followed by a second from Kolora Lomani. Despite a penalty from Hong Kong’s Fung Hoi Ching, Fiji maintained control, with further tries from Naisewa, Repeka Tove, and Sulita Waisega. Naisewa’s second try capped the scoring, leading to a final result of 38-3.

In other news, the national under-18 schoolboys team secured a victory against Australia, winning 26-14 in their first match at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka. Their next match is scheduled for tomorrow at 3pm.
