Fijiana XV Set to Make History at 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup

The Vodafone Fijiana XV are preparing for a significant challenge at the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup (RWC) in England. They have been placed in a competitive Pool B, where they will compete against Canada, Scotland, and Wales. The tournament is scheduled to take place from September 7 to October 28 and is expected to be a pivotal event in the women’s rugby calendar.

Alana Thomas, manager of the women’s high performance unit for Fiji Rugby Union, shared her confidence and excitement following the draw. She noted, “Being drawn in such a competitive pool is a testament to the growth of women’s rugby in Fiji. We are eager to take on the challenge and represent our nation with honour.”

The Fijiana XV recently returned from the WXV3 competition in Dubai, where they completed their exit reviews. The team will take a short break before regrouping in November to begin their preparation for the World Cup. Reflecting on the past season, Thomas highlighted the team’s milestones. “It’s been the biggest season in the history of the Fijiana XV, with 11 Test matches that saw us qualify for the RWC, win the Oceania Championship, and beat Japan for the first time.”

The squad’s recent northern tour, which included a match against Scotland, offered valuable experience to the players. Although the outcome of the match was not in their favour, Thomas emphasized that exposure to Six Nations-style rugby and playing in different conditions will be advantageous for them at the World Cup.

As excitement builds for the 2025 RWC, the Fijiana XV are determined to showcase the spirit of Fiji in England and leave their mark on the international stage.
