The Vodafone Fijian XV is set to face Spain in their final match of the WXV 3 tournament in Dubai tomorrow, and players may feel motivated to perform in honor of their head coach Mosese Rauluni, who will be leading the team for the last time. Rauluni announced his resignation on Tuesday following the Fijiana XV’s 45-17 loss to Samoa.
Under his guidance, the Fijian Drua reached their third consecutive Super W Grand Final this year and the Fijiana XV claimed the Oceania Championship, securing their qualification for the upcoming Rugby World Cup. He was also instrumental in coaching the Fijiana to their historic first win against Japan. Rauluni’s leadership facilitated a centralization initiative in Nadi, marking a progressive phase for both players and staff, which has contributed to the development of talents like Atelaite Buna, Salanieta Kinita, and Repeka Tove.
As stated by the Fiji Rugby Union, this match will be Rauluni’s final role before relocating to Brisbane, Australia to be with his family. FRU CEO Rovereto Nayacalevu mentioned that the search for a suitable successor to Rauluni will begin shortly for the head coach positions of the Fijiana XV and Rooster Chicken Fijiana Drua teams.
Nayacalevu wished Rauluni success in his future pursuits and expressed hope that he enjoys quality time with his family in Australia. The match between Fiji and Spain is scheduled to kick off at 4:30am and will be broadcast live on Sky Pacific.
