Fijiana XV Faces Coaching Change Ahead of Tough World Cup Challenge

The search for a new head coach for the Vodafone Fijiana XV and Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua women’s rugby teams is underway, as confirmed by Fijian Drua CEO Mark Evans. This follows the resignation of head coach Mosese Rauluni after the Fijiana XV’s disappointing performance at the WXV3 in Dubai, where they suffered losses to Samoa and Spain.

Evans explained that the coaching role is jointly funded, meaning that Rauluni’s resignation from the national team also affects his role with the Drua. He indicated that they are collaborating with the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) to find a suitable successor. In prior discussions, former Fijiana XV coach Senirusi Seruvakula expressed he is not interested in the position, while Inoke Male has yet to make a decision. It is possible that Kele Leawere, who has served as Rauluni’s assistant, may be a candidate for the role since he is familiar with the team.

Additionally, the Fijiana XVs are gearing up for a challenging group in the upcoming Women’s Rugby World Cup in England. They have been placed in Pool B alongside Canada, Scotland, and Wales. The Fijiana XVs recently faced a 59-15 defeat against Scotland in a Test match last month at the Hive Stadium in Edinburgh.

The reigning champions, New Zealand, are in Pool C, which includes Ireland, Japan, and South Africa. The host nation England competes in Pool A with Australia, the USA, and Samoa. The Women’s Rugby World Cup is scheduled to take place from August 22 to September 27.

The Pools for the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 are as follows:
Pool A: England, Australia, USA, Samoa
Pool B: Canada, Scotland, Wales, Fiji
Pool C: New Zealand, Ireland, Japan, Spain
Pool D: France, Italy, South Africa, Brazil.
