Fijiana Women’s 7s Team Prepares for Olympics with Full Force

Fijiana Women’s 7s coach Saiasi Fuli stresses the paramount importance of player safety as the team gears up for the Olympics.

Remaining in Fiji to focus on training has proven beneficial, with the past two weeks being highlighted as particularly productive.

The team has thrived in their training sessions, and all players are currently free from injuries.

“The past two weeks have been the best for our preparation, with the team performing well in training. The good news is that everyone is injury-free and ready to travel,” Fuli stated.

Fuli explained that the decision to train separately from the men’s team, which is in France, is due to political unrest in France.

“We stayed back in Fiji because of the political tension in France. Safety is our main priority. People might wonder why the men’s team is in France while we’re in Fiji, but it’s all due to the situation there. Training here has helped us bond and prepare for the Olympics. The girls have really stepped up and worked hard, and we’re eager to represent our country as we leave for France on Monday.”

As they get ready to travel to France, the team anticipates facing strong opponents in their pool.

“When it comes to the Olympics, the girls earn their spots through hard work and individual performances. We have seven days to fine-tune our rugby skills and strategies before facing teams like Canada, China, and New Zealand.

“We ask all our amazing fans in Fiji for their blessings and prayers as we embark on this competition. Your support means everything to us, and we’re very thankful for it.”

The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team will first compete against Canada on the 29th of this month at 3:30 a.m. at Stade de France.

They will then play against China at 7 a.m. on the same day before facing New Zealand at 2:30 a.m. on the 30th.

The team will depart for France on Monday.
