A new initiative has been introduced that allows 106 families of Fijian workers participating in the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme to relocate to Australia. This program, called the Family Accompaniment Pilot, aims to strengthen family bonds and provide support to those who are working abroad.
As part of this pilot, pre-departure briefings have been conducted in Suva, Nadi, and Labasa. During these sessions, families will learn about various important topics, including cultural integration, financial management, health and safety, parenting rights, government benefits, education options, and housing.
Once in Australia, the families will have access to a range of benefits such as the Family Tax Benefit, Childcare Subsidy, and Medicare. Additionally, the partners of PALM scheme workers will be permitted to engage in employment. Their children will also have the opportunity to enroll in local schools, ensuring that families can maintain a stable and supportive environment as they adapt to life in Australia.
This initiative not only supports the Fijian workers in Australia but also provides their families with essential tools and resources to thrive in a new country.
In summary, the PALM Family Accompaniment Pilot is a positive development that recognizes the importance of family unity and offers necessary support for families transitioning to life in Australia. It reflects an ongoing commitment to fostering stronger community ties and enhancing the well-being of migrant workers and their loved ones.
