Seremaia Salikoro and Sefania Naqama, two promising players from the Fijian Drua Academy, are set to expand their horizons through a new partnership with Tauranga Boys College in New Zealand. Both athletes have been awarded full scholarships, marking a significant step in their sporting and educational careers.
Salikoro, a student from Natabua High School, will benefit from a three-year scholarship, while Naqama, hailing from Sila Central High School in Nausori, has secured a two-year opportunity. Their selection was made by Regan Ward, the First XV Coach at Tauranga Boys College, along with Senior Rugby Coordinator Aidan Kuka, who recognized the potential of these young athletes during a recent visit with the Drua.
Baden Stephenson, General Manager of the Fijian Drua, expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating, “The Fijian Drua are thrilled to commence our world-class partnership with Tauranga Boys College. This partnership will provide life-changing experiences for our first two scholarship holders.” He emphasized that Salikoro and Naqama will not only receive an exceptional education but will also immerse themselves in a different culture and experience elite rugby training.
Importantly, both players plan to return to the Fijian Drua after completing their scholarships, with a commitment from the program to support their development both on and off the field while in New Zealand.
This partnership showcases a dedication to nurturing talent and highlights the importance of building strong values in young athletes. It is a hopeful endeavor that promises to enrich the lives of these players, allowing them to grow personally, academically, and in their sport.
In summary, Salikoro and Naqama’s journey is a testament to the positive impact of strategic partnerships in sports, paving the way for brighter futures for young athletes in Fiji.
