Fijian Soldier’s Valor Honored: A Medal with Meaning

Vasemaca Garnett has been honored with the General Service Medal for his service in Iraq, awarded two months ago. The General Service Medal is presented to members of the Fiji military as a recognition of their service within certain global missions, alongside the UNAMI medal, which is awarded for service in Iraq.

Currently serving in the Fijian Army, Garnett is one of 135 personnel who have been deployed to Iraq over the past year. He shared from the Rewa region that he did not expect to receive this medal, noting that he humbly accepted it as a recognition of his hard work.

Garnett expressed that receiving the medal was a proud moment, highlighting that he felt personally fulfilled knowing his efforts had been acknowledged. Despite being far from Fiji, he appreciates the support from his family during his deployment, allowing him to focus on his responsibilities without distraction.
