Vasemaca Garnett was recently awarded the General Service Medal in recognition of his service in Iraq two months ago. This prestigious medal is typically awarded to Fijian military personnel, marking their commitment during extended deployments in overseas missions, alongside the UNAMI medal granted for specific tasks performed in Iraq.
Vasemaca is one of 135 Fijian soldiers currently stationed in Iraq. He expressed humility regarding this honor, stating that he doesn’t seek recognition but takes pride in his duties and contributions.

He also emphasized the importance of being prepared to face difficulties, advising young women to embrace challenges and work diligently.
In total, 20 women serving in Iraq have also been awarded the same medal, highlighting the significant contributions made by Fijian military personnel, particularly women, in international service.
This recognition not only brings pride to the individuals but also sheds light on the essential roles that Fijian soldiers play in peacekeeping and humanitarian missions across the globe.
In conclusion, Vasemaca’s story serves as an inspiration, showcasing the resilience and dedication of Fijian soldiers who rise to meet challenges abroad, reinforcing the significance of their service and sacrifice for their country.
