Fijian Drua Academy players Seremaia Salikoro and Sefania Naqama are set to broaden their horizons after being awarded full scholarships to Tauranga Boys College in New Zealand. This opportunity arises from a strategic partnership established between the Fiji Drua and the college.
Salikoro, who hails from Natabua High School, has secured a three-year scholarship, while Naqama, a student from Sila Central High School in Nausori, will benefit from a two-year scholarship. The recipients were identified by Tauranga Boys College’s First XV Coach Regan Ward and Senior Rugby Coordinator Aidan Kuka, who recognized their potential during a week spent with the Drua.
Fijian Drua General Manager Baden Stephenson expressed excitement about this partnership, noting that it represents a significant opportunity for Salikoro and Naqama. He highlighted that the pair, both 16 years old, will gain a high-quality education, experience a new culture, and thrive in an elite rugby environment.
Upon completing their studies, both players will return to the Fijian Drua, with ongoing support from the rugby program as they transition to life in New Zealand. This initiative emphasizes a strong commitment to not only developing rugby talent but also fostering well-rounded individuals on and off the field.
This partnership exemplifies the growing international appreciation for talent from Fiji and the dedication to nurturing young athletes. Salikoro and Naqama’s journey is not just a personal achievement but a testament to the potential that lies within aspiring athletes from the region. The experience they gain could serve as a springboard for future opportunities in their sporting careers.
