Fijian Police Unite for CHOGM Security as King Charles Joins Leaders

The Fiji Police Force has sent a team of officers to Samoa to enhance security for the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), scheduled for next week. This meeting will feature the attendance of King Charles and will concentrate on pressing issues related to security, environmental challenges, and global economic matters.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has indicated that participating leaders will explore collaborative strategies to strengthen resilience, foster innovation, and stimulate trade and growth. They will also focus on empowering the Commonwealth’s youth to create a more peaceful and sustainable future.

In a statement, the Fiji Police announced that their team will work alongside the Samoa Police, Prisons, and Corrections during the weeklong conference. A total of 42 international personnel, which includes 35 members from the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police and representatives from the Pacific Police Support Group, will assist during the CHOGM 2024.

Leading the contingent from Fiji is Superintendent of Police Rakesh Chand, who will oversee a specialized team consisting of forensic experts, intelligence officers, personal protection specialists, motorcyclists, and administrative support.
