Fijian Police Officers Graduate from Leadership Training: What’s Next?

The first group of Fijian Police officers in middle supervisory roles have successfully completed the Leadership Training facilitated by the esteemed UK College of Policing.

The training for the Central Division was concluded by the British High Commissioner to Fiji, Dr. Brian Jones, who highlighted that the training is part of ongoing collaborative efforts between law enforcement agencies.

“This partnership will continue to grow and develop. As you advance through the ranks, there will be elements of UK training, whether it is specialized or focused on leadership,” Dr. Jones stated.

Simultaneously, the Western Division cohort’s training was closed by the Director of Training and Education, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Serepepeli Neiko, who emphasized the importance of making sound decisions based on best practices, regardless of rank.

“While the discussions will be formalized at the strategic level, operationalizing the outcomes is where you all come in. To play your role effectively according to the organization’s strategic direction, you need the necessary tools to lead as first-line leaders,” SSP Neiko remarked.

“First-line leaders bear a significant burden, as you are expected to operationalize the strategic intent of our organization.”

“You are the future of this organization. It is our duty to prepare you for what lies ahead. With the help of our colleagues from the UK College of Policing, you now have the tools to support your professional development and enhance your leadership skills and performance.”

The UK College of Policing has committed to bringing its specialized leadership training to Fiji this year, with a particular focus on supervisors and middle management.
