Acting Minister for Home Affairs Filimoni Vosarogo has confirmed that Fijian peacekeepers stationed in the Middle East are safe, despite the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran. He emphasized the importance of their safety, echoing the United Nations General Secretary’s call for an immediate ceasefire in the region.
“In light of the recent increase in hostilities, particularly the Iranian airstrikes within Israeli airspace, ensuring the security of our personnel on peacekeeping missions is critical,” Vosarogo stated. He has been updated by the Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces regarding the situation of Fijian peacekeepers in the Middle East, including those in Lebanon, Syria, the Golan Heights, Jerusalem, and Sinai, who are closely monitoring developments with increased vigilance.
Given the volatile situation, Vosarogo has urged citizens to keep the peacekeepers in their thoughts and prayers as the stability of the region remains uncertain.
