Fijian Parliament Passes $3.9 Billion Budget: Vote Breakdown Revealed

The Fijian Parliament has approved the 2024-25 National Budget with a majority of 38 members voting in favor. Bill 7 of 2024, which allocates a total of $3,955,819,479 for the fiscal year ending 31 July 2025, was read for the third time by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad before the vote took place. Independent Opposition Members of Parliament who supported the budget include Aliki Bia, Mosese Bulitavu, Shalen Kumar, Ioane Naivalurua, Viliame Naupoto, Penioni Ravunawa, Taito Rokomatu, Alipate Tuicolo, Naisa Tuinaceva, and Ratu Josaia Niudamu. In contrast, 11 Members of Parliament voted against the budget, while 2 abstained from voting.
