Fijian Hotelier Eyes Exciting Homecoming Opportunity

Ravinder Dhesi, a Fijian national and the general manager of JW Marriott Gold Coast, has expressed his desire to return to Fiji if the opportunity arises. This month marks his 25th anniversary with the Marriott Group, which he celebrates with pride after a distinguished career.

Reflecting on his journey, Dhesi recalled his graduation with a Bachelor of Business degree in Sydney, highlighting his unexpected rise to general manager of a luxury five-star hotel in Australia. “When I look at my journey, I never thought I would reach this position, but I embraced every career opportunity,” he said.

Dhesi’s connection to Fiji runs deep. His first job as a graduate accountant involved auditing the Sheraton Fiji back in 1993, a place that holds a cherished significance for him. During a recent visit, he felt nostalgic as staff members warmly welcomed him, remembering their time together.

“At breakfast, everyone was coming up to hug me, recognizing my success as a local in the hospitality industry,” he shared. Dhesi hopes his story can inspire other Fijians pursuing careers in hospitality.

Despite his success, he feels he has more to achieve and plans to continue working within the Marriott chain. He sees a potential return to Fiji as a chance to help develop local talent in the hospitality sector, emphasizing that Fiji will always be home for him.
