Fijian Flying Circus Set to Dazzle in Rakiraki!

The Fijian Flying Circus is set to debut in Rakiraki this weekend, with expectations of a strong attendance. This event, organized by VOU Dance, aims to bring the circus experience to local communities over a week-long period. Preparations were underway yesterday as the team finalized arrangements for Saturday’s grand opening.

Annually, VOU conducts a youth talent search throughout the country, providing local participants with accommodation and compensation as they engage in a two-year training program. However, VOU director Sachiko Soro indicated that the recruitment process can be challenging due to issues with discipline among the candidates.

“They come from villages and settlements across various towns and cities,” she explained. “Out of the 20 we recruit, around 12 demonstrate extraordinary potential.”

VOU Dance boasts a workforce comprising 52 percent women. Nonetheless, traditional cultural expectations present obstacles, with Soro noting that women often face pressure to fulfill domestic roles, especially if an elder in the family is unwell.
