More than a hundred Fijian supporters donned blue and white jerseys to cheer for the FIJI Water Flying Fijians at Teufaiva Stadium in Tonga yesterday. The atmosphere was tense as the Tonga team scored three tries in the first half, prompting many fans to chant “Toso Viti Toso” to uplift the Fijian squad’s morale for the second half.
The match, starting at 4 PM, saw many fans leaving work early to experience the contest between these two prominent Pacific nations. Jonetani Vula, a local school teacher, arrived at the stadium with his wife by 3 PM, expressing that this was a game his family was keen not to miss.
“Most of the Fijian families here have been sharing designs of the Fijian jerseys, and many picked theirs up last night,” he noted. “We even have some supporters who traveled from afar outside of Nuku’alofa to cheer for the boys today. We are delighted that the boys won tonight and wish them the best in their upcoming game in Japan.”
After their victory against the formidable Tonga side, fans celebrated by singing happy birthday and offering well wishes to team captain Tevita Ikanivere, presenting him with a cake. Ikanivere expressed his heartfelt appreciation to the fans for their unwavering support, which he credited with boosting the team’s spirits and contributing to their success.
