Fijian Drua Academy athletes Seremaia Salikoro and Sefania Naqama are set to enhance their skills and knowledge as they begin their journey at Tauranga Boys College, thanks to full scholarships provided through a new partnership between the Fiji Drua and the school.
Salikoro, hailing from Natabua High School, is the recipient of a three-year scholarship, while Naqama, a student from Sila Central High School in Nausori, has secured a two-year scholarship.
The two young players were identified as ideal candidates for the scholarships by Tauranga Boys College’s First XV Coach, Regan Ward, and Senior Rugby Coordinator Aidan Kuka, who recognized their potential during a week spent with the Drua.
Fijian Drua General Manager Baden Stephenson expressed excitement about this collaboration, stating, “The Fijian Drua are thrilled to commence our world-class partnership with Tauranga Boys College. This partnership will be a life-changing experience for our first two scholarship holders.” He emphasized that both players will receive an exceptional education, immerse themselves in a new culture, and thrive in an elite rugby environment.
After completing their scholarships, Salikoro and Naqama are expected to return to the Fijian Drua, allowing them to contribute to the team with the knowledge and experience they’ve gained. The partnership reflects a strong commitment to nurturing talent and developing young athletes into well-rounded individuals, both on and off the field.
This partnership is a beacon of hope for aspiring Fijian athletes, showcasing the opportunities that can arise through collaboration and commitment to development. It exemplifies how sports can serve as a pathway for education and personal growth, benefiting the community as a whole.
These developments signal a promising future for Salikoro and Naqama, as well as a broader commitment to fostering talent within the Fiji Drua program and beyond.
